1. What classes does SJLC offer?
The San Jose Learning Center offers group classes, private lessons and corporate programs for 18 languages:
- Group Classes: Designed for adults over the age of 18, and meet on weekday evenings and weekends. There are 3 types of group class teaching formats: Online, In-Person, and Hybrid (ie: students can attend the same class online or in-person).
- Private Lessons: Designed for teenagers and adults, and may meet any day and time the student prefers. Lessons may be taken in-person or online.
- Corporate Programs: Designed for the specific company, and may meet any day and time the company prefers. Classes may be taken in-person on site or online.
The course price depends on the type of class, and teaching method. Currently, there are 3 types of courses available:
- Regular 7-week course: from $325
- Intensive 5-week course: from $325
- Gradual 10-week course: from $325
Most language classes are offered in Online, In-Person and Hybrid settings. In-Person and Hybrid classes cost slightly more than Online classes.
3. How much are the Private and Semi-Private lessons?Private and Semi-Private lesson pricing depends on how many hours are purchased at a time. Students can purchase 1, 5, 10, or 20 hours at a time. Private lessons are for 1 person and Semi-Private lessons are for 2 people. The prices for Semi-Private lessons are split between 2 people:
- Online Private: $55 - $70/hr
- Online Semi-Private: $75 - $90/hr
- In-Person Private: $65 - 80/hr
- In-Person Semi-Private: $90 - $105/hr
All classes meet once a week for 1.5 hours, unless otherwise stated in the description of the class.
- Regular courses meet for 7 weeks.
- Intensive courses meet for 5 weeks.
- Gradual courses meet for 10 weeks.
Many classes include the course material, but some classes require a textbook. Please see the class’ webpage for the class you are registering for to see the textbook requirements.

SJLC offers new courses every two months. Most classes and levels currently offered will be offered again the following session. Please see the Group Classes page on the website for start dates.

10. Is there public transportation near the school?Yes, there are a variety of VTA options that service the area. Please see the map HERE to view all public transportation options. If you are in need of assistance or directions you can call the school at: (408) 694-7458
11. Does SJLC offer student Visas?No. SJLC does not issue any student Visas, including the I-20.
12. Does SJLC offer High School or College credit?No. SJLC classes do not qualify for High School or College credit.
13. Does SJLC offer Certificates for completing a program?Yes. SJLC students may request to receive a Certificate of Completion after completing a course. The requirement to receive this certificate is a 100% attendance record for the course, or a proven knowledge of the course material.
14. What happens if I miss a class during the program?Students who miss a group class will not receive a free make-up class, but there are some ways students can keep up with the class material:
- Online & Hybrid - Students enrolled in these types of classes may simply review the class recording to learn the material they missed in class.
- In-Person - Students enrolled in this type of class may either upgrade their registration to Hybrid (if available) for $50 and receive all the class recordings to review, or they may schedule a 1 hour make-up lesson with their teacher at a discounted rate. In-Person make-up lessons are $65/hr (originally $80/hr) and Online make-up lessons are $55/hr (originally $70/hr).
Students may reschedule their private lesson at no charge with a minimum of 24 hour notice. If the lesson is canceled in less than 24 hours of the start of the lesson, it will be considered taken.
